ART IS...At The Hutton

ART IS...At The Hutton
A unique project that allows artists to display their work in windows at a prominent downtown location in Zone 4-The Historic Hutton Building and attracts attention to the spaces for lease within the Hutton Building.

A limited number of artists will be chosen to show their work in the outside empty storefronts of the Historic Hutton Building on Washington Street between First and Sprague Avenues in downtown Spokane.  The work, an artist's resume and links to more of the artists' work will simultaneously be seen on the blogs site:  http://artisatthehutton.blogspot.com/

This site is grouped by artist and each window is numbered with a corresponding number on the physical window.

Artists have 24 hour-7 day a week live exposure of their work.  The J.F. Thamm Gallery  at 11 S. Washington St., Spokane, WA  handles the art sales.

Take a stroll down to the Historic Hutton Building and enjoy the show. Then find out more about the artists and their work on this blogsite.

All space where the art is displayed is "for rent."

Biography:
Ida started out as many young artists start out. As a child she spent countless hours in her room drawing and sketching to her hearts content. Over the years her skills developed and grew to where she began to tackle more complicated works. She began to study various text and styles of different artists like Monet, Da Vinci. She spent many hours at the library growing up checking out books on animals, and people. She spent countless hours studying the anatomy of people and animals and poured over countless books on various subjects. She had a love of art and had the basic skills and talent, but didn’t have the training needed to create a good composition. So she went to college at Spokane Falls Community College where she studied under Jim Hinton in his figure drawing class. She also took classes at the Falls in perspective drawing, calligraphy, and ceramics.  These classes gave her a good basis to start developing her style and started her experimenting with different techniques. Various things sidetracked her art education, but it was never forgotten. She continued to work on her skills in her spare time outside of work and family. She has continued to create her art for various friends, and for her work.  She has been the artist in residence for her employer and has volunteered her skills to create art for their library newsletters as well as published her artwork for the library magazine ALKI.  Over the years the skills have grown and developed into what you see now. She continues to grow and develop as an artist.  She hopes to continue to challenge and develop herself into an accomplished artist with help and advice from other artists and by continuing to work in different mediums.  As far as her personal life she has been married to a wonderful man for over 30 years and they have bright and precocious a 10 year old son. They currently reside in Spokane.

Ildikó Kalapács was born in Hungary and has been living in the USA since 1987.  She left Hungary just before the end of the Soviet occupation and the collapse of the Soviet Union.  Her past experiences with social issues can be detected in her works created in the USA in the past 14 years.
Her work is rooted in two cultures (Hungarian and American) and influenced by her travels as a folk dancer and artist.  Her two-dimensional images are derived from the traditions of figurative art mixed with traces of Central European folk art and the four languages she has been closely exposed to (Hungarian, Russian, English and Japanese).  The complex nature of her art can be traced back to her interest in intercultural disciplines and globalization.
Her three-dimensional art works consist of mostly ceramic works with some mixed media and bronze pieces.  The use of these materials has some tradition in Hungarian art but ceramics also plays a philosophically and conceptually important role in her art:  Ceramic material symbolizes the fragile nature of the human body and soul.  One must touch it and handle it gingerly and carefully.  This is the basic principle and approach to her socially oriented sculptures.  Along with the literal form, her work leaves enough room for abstract or conceptual interpretation.
